| Gary Hooper is a Classic Country, Middle of the Road, 50’s-60’s Rock Singer from New Brunswick, now living and performing in Ontario.
In his young career, he moved to Ontario and worked at various jobs including stock car racer, salesman and truck driver. In 1959 he moved back to N.B. for a short time. During that period while performing at a fund-raising event for his old high school, he caught the bug and his entertainment career was in motion. By 1963, Gary returned to Ontario and performed in hotels and taverns in and around Toronto. In 1969 Gary produced and directed his own live radio program from the Hayloft over CHOO radio and during this times he had a 6 hour Saturday morning show as well.
Gary has released three albums. From one album he had five hits in 1970. The hits were: “I Wouldn’t Take a Million Dollars For A Single Maple Leaf”,; “22 Dollars From Dallas” and “The Miracle”; “Answer Calls For Rose” and “Selling Our Country Down The Drain”. This album was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee. During this time, while the hits were peaking, Gary and his band “The Whips”, did extensive touring of the Mid-Western States and Canada.
In August 1994 Gary rekindled his career with Ambassador Record releasing a compilation CD for the European Market. The song, “Where The Blue Waters Foam”, reached number 5 on the country charts throughout Europe, Australia and New Zealand. In 1996 and 1998 Gary hosted and produced 8 one half hour TV shows and a 1 hour show. In May 2001 Gary realized a long time dream and released a Gospel CD entitled, “Keys To The Kingdom”. In June of that year he released, “House On The Hill” with Hillside Records label.
Gary is a founding member of the C.C.M.R. and presently sits as a member of the Board of Directors. He has appeared often on the C.C.M.R. Main Stage in the past 18 years and we welcome him back this year on the Friday night Main Stage Show.
